Year after year the SKO team takes part in the Come Together Cup, both in Cologne and at the Glückauf-Kampfbahn in Gelsenkirchen – and so it was on Saturday, 7 September 2019. Together with 35 other teams we once again competed for a good cause under this year's motto “Just Miteinander”. We were drawn against the teams Vivawest, Bottrop fire brigade, AWO Gemeinschaftshaus and Fans 91.
In the group stage the SKO team held its own very well and won four of five matches. That got us into the round of sixteen and kept us in the tournament. A little summer fairy tale for the SKO team, because at both CTCs in 2018 it was unfortunately over for us after the group stage. Perhaps that was also thanks to our small SKO fan club, which cheered our players on loudly from the touchline. In the round of sixteen we unfortunately did not manage to beat the Klabusterbeeren. Next time then!
The nice thing about the Come Together Cup, though, is that winning is not important at all. What matters far more is people of the most varied backgrounds coming together. Good spirits, fun and activities for young and old are what make the CTC and its success. Year after year this event proves that people of the most diverse origins, sexual orientations and social backgrounds can get along well and have fun together. Amid all the current political and social unrest around us, the CTC shows how wonderfully diversity and togetherness can work.
That is why we are glad and proud to be a main sponsor of the Come Together Cup, through which charitable projects and organisations receive lasting support. We are looking forward to the next CTC, the one after that and all those still to come – and perhaps we will even make it to the final!
See you in 2020!
